Paying by card: limits and fees

Who sets card and bank limits and fees, what your buyer sees before paying, and how long a bank transfer takes.

Your buyer can pay you by card or from their own crypto wallet. Every payment link and invoice offers the ways that are available — nothing here switches an option off.

Who sets the limits and fees

When your buyer pays by card, a card company takes that payment. The card company sets its own limits and its own fees. They differ from one card company to another and from one buyer to the next, and they can change. A card company can refuse a payment, or take less than the full amount.

What your buyer sees

Before paying by card, your buyer sees the total price each card company offers. They choose one and pay on that company's own screen. Nothing is charged until they confirm there.

Paying from a crypto wallet

A buyer paying from their own crypto wallet is not under a card limit. Their wallet and the network may still have rules of their own.

If a large payment does not go through by card

Nothing is lost and nothing is marked paid. Your buyer can:

  • pay the same link from their own crypto wallet;
  • or you can send the amount as more than one link.

If a card company takes less than the full amount, the payment shows as Underpaid and you choose what happens next — see handling underpayments.

Zoyn is software. It is not a bank, a payment processor, a payment gateway, a money transmitter or a money services business. Zoyn is never the seller in a sale (the "merchant of record"). Zoyn never holds a shop's money, and does not decide how long a payment company may hold it. When a customer pays by card or bank, the payment company handles that payment under its own terms and may hold it for a short time. The money then goes to the shop's own payment contract once the payment network has confirmed it.

Businesses can be based in 64 jurisdictions. A US state stays open when at least one checkout partner still serves buyers there. Customers can pay from 130+ countries through the checkout providers we connect to; which countries customers can pay from is set by those providers, not by Zoyn, and may change without notice. Not available in sanctioned jurisdictions: Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Syria, and the Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions of Ukraine.
