Payments for plant and tool hire

Take the hire and the security deposit before the kit goes to site.

Plant hire and tool hire firms send expensive machines out to contractors on sites they never see. Send the hire charge and the security deposit as two payment links, paid from the customer's own wallet, and settlement reaches your wallet after the required network confirmations. A security deposit taken this way is a full payment, not a card hold, so returning any unused part is a payment you send back yourself.

Why this trade gets flagged

Valuable kit on a distant site, hours that run over, and a deposit to settle at the end.

The machine goes to site before you have been paid

A digger, a dumper or an access platform is loaded and delivered to a site you may never visit, for a contractor you may not have hired to before. Once it is there, it is out of your sight.

Send the hire charge and the security deposit as two fixed links before delivery, with the machine, the site town and the hire dates in the description. The contractor pays from their own wallet, and settlement reaches your wallet after the required network confirmations.

The hire runs over, or the hour meter says more than was booked

The job overruns by a week, or the machine comes back with far more hours on the clock than the quote allowed for. The customer remembers the original price.

Create one more link for the extra days or hours, with the meter reading in its description, so the customer sees what they are paying for before they pay it. Each link is fixed once it is created, so the extra is its own payment.

Damage, missing parts or a machine returned dirty turns the deposit into an argument

A cracked bucket, a lost attachment or a tool that never came back. The question is how much of the deposit you keep, and the customer disagrees.

Your own hire agreement decides damage, cleaning and losses, together with the law that applies to you. Returning any unused part of the deposit is a payment you send back yourself; Zoyn has no refund button. A wallet payment is not pulled back by Zoyn after the required network confirmations; card-funded payments can still be disputed under the provider's own rules.

What you hire out

A hire link and a deposit link, whatever the kit.

Plant hire

Diggers, dumpers, rollers and access platforms: one link for the hire and one for the security deposit, paid before the machine is delivered.

Tool hire

Breakers, saws, generators and small kit: a link for the hire and a link for the deposit, paid before the customer collects.

Long hires on a live site

If a contractor keeps a machine for weeks and you invoice as you go, each invoice is its own link, and there is no automatic weekly or monthly charge.

How it works

Paid, delivered, then settled up.

1

Book the hire with two links

One fixed link for the hire charge and one for the security deposit, each with the machine and the hire dates as the description.

2

The customer pays before delivery

From their own wallet, or by card where a card option is offered in their country and the payment passes its checks.

3

Settle up when the kit comes back

Extra days or hours are one more link. Any unused deposit is a payment you send back yourself, under your hire agreement.

Common questions

What a hire firm asks first.

Can Zoyn hold the deposit and release it when the machine comes back?

No. A security deposit taken this way is a full payment, not a card hold, so returning any unused part is a payment you send back yourself.

Can I take the hire charge and the deposit separately?

Yes, as two links, each a fixed amount. Every link is a single payment; there is no repeat or automatic billing.

The hire ran over by a week. Can I change the link?

Each link is fixed once it is created. Send one more link for the extra days, with the dates in its description.

Is the money really mine once it arrives?

It lands in a wallet only you control. Two honest limits: while your Zoyn account is under review, Zoyn pauses automatic payouts to your wallet until the review is finished; and a card payment can be declined or asked for ID before it is sent.

Do you accept my business?

We publish every business type we take and every one we refuse, and every application is checked before it goes live. We don't promise a timeline we can't keep.

Zoyn is software. It is not a bank, a payment processor, a payment gateway, a money transmitter or a money services business. Zoyn is never the seller in a sale (the "merchant of record"). Zoyn never holds a shop's money, and does not decide how long a payment company may hold it. When a customer pays by card or bank, the payment company handles that payment under its own terms and may hold it for a short time. The money then goes to the shop's own payment contract once the payment network has confirmed it.

Businesses can be based in 64 jurisdictions. A US state stays open when at least one checkout partner still serves buyers there. Customers can pay from 130+ countries through the checkout providers we connect to; which countries customers can pay from is set by those providers, not by Zoyn, and may change without notice. Not available in sanctioned jurisdictions: Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Syria, and the Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions of Ukraine.
