Payments for sailing charters

Payments for bareboat and sailing charters.

Bareboat, skippered and flotilla charters are booked months ahead, often by guests abroad. Send one link for the charter fee and another for the damage deposit. A security deposit taken this way is a full payment, not a card hold, so returning any unused part is a payment you send back yourself.

Why this is harder than it looks

Guests abroad, a deposit to argue over, and a handover that can change the plan.

The booking is made months ahead, from abroad

Most charter guests book from home, often in another country, long before they arrive at the marina. A card from a foreign bank is where the booking tends to fail.

Send one link for the charter fee when the booking is confirmed. The guest pays from their own wallet, or by card where available — buyer eligibility depends on country, payment method, provider, and compliance checks.

The damage deposit is where the argument starts

A scraped hull, a lost dinghy or a fouled propeller is found at check-in, and the guest disagrees about what it should cost.

Take the damage deposit as its own link, separate from the charter fee. It is a full payment, not a card hold: the money reaches you, and returning any unused part is a payment you send back yourself, under your own charter terms.

The handover can change the plan

If the skipper's experience doesn't match what was booked, you may need to add a hired skipper or change the boat at the dock.

Anything added at handover is one more link for the exact amount. Every link is a single payment of a fixed amount, and nothing is charged automatically.

Charter fees and deposits settle to a wallet only you control.

Two limits worth knowing. If your own account with us is under review, automatic payouts pause until that is resolved. And a guest paying by card can be declined, or asked to prove who they are, before the money is sent — a payment that doesn't happen, never money taken back from you afterwards.

How it works

One link for the charter, one for the deposit.

1

Send the link for the charter fee

A fixed amount, with your booking number as the description.

2

Send the damage deposit as its own link

Before the guest arrives, so it is settled before they board.

3

The payment reaches your wallet

After the required network confirmations, in the currency the link was set in.

Common questions

What a charter operator asks first.

Can I hold the damage deposit instead of taking it?

No. A security deposit taken this way is a full payment, not a card hold, so returning any unused part is a payment you send back yourself. Zoyn has no refund button.

The guest wants to pay the charter in two parts. Can they?

Yes, as two separate links, each for a fixed amount — one when they book and one before they arrive. There is no payment plan and nothing is charged automatically.

Does this work for motorboat and day-boat hire?

Yes. A day on a motorboat is one link for the hire and, if you take one, a second link for the deposit. The same rule applies: the deposit is a payment you return yourself.

The weather cancelled the charter. What happens to the money?

Your charter terms decide what is owed back. Returning money is a payment you send yourself. A wallet payment is not reversed by Zoyn after the required network confirmations; a card-funded payment can still be disputed under the provider's own rules.

What does it cost me?

A percentage of each payment, agreed with you in writing before you go live: crypto payments start at 0.75%, and card payments, if your business can take them, have a separate, higher price. No monthly platform fee and no setup fee. Network fees, and any extra charge for how your customer pays, are separate. Your customer pays them on top of your price and sees their total before they pay.

Will you take my charter business?

We publish every business type we take and every one we refuse, and every application is reviewed before it goes live. We don't promise a timeline we can't keep.

Zoyn is software. It is not a bank, a payment processor, a payment gateway, a money transmitter or a money services business. Zoyn is never the seller in a sale (the "merchant of record"). Zoyn never holds a shop's money, and does not decide how long a payment company may hold it. When a customer pays by card or bank, the payment company handles that payment under its own terms and may hold it for a short time. The money then goes to the shop's own payment contract once the payment network has confirmed it.

Businesses can be based in 64 jurisdictions. A US state stays open when at least one checkout partner still serves buyers there. Customers can pay from 130+ countries through the checkout providers we connect to; which countries customers can pay from is set by those providers, not by Zoyn, and may change without notice. Not available in sanctioned jurisdictions: Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Syria, and the Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions of Ukraine.
