Payment problems — Customers abroad declined

When customers in other countries keep getting declined.

A customer abroad wants to pay you, and the checkout turns them away. Send them one link for the amount instead. They can pay from their own wallet, and the money settles to a wallet you control. Every application is reviewed before you go live.

Before you read on: we publish every business type we take and every one we refuse — 28 we take, 11 we refuse.

Check yours in ten seconds

This is not a way round sanctions or the law. Businesses in comprehensively sanctioned countries can't sign up, and the wallet addresses shops and partners are paid to are re-checked against sanctions lists every day. Which ways to pay a customer sees depends on their country; the checkout shows them the ways and limits available to them.

See every country, and how customers there can pay.

Why it happens

A customer ready to pay, and a sale that never happens.

They wanted to buy, and the checkout said no

Your customer found you, chose what they wanted and tried to pay. The payment failed, often with no reason given, and the sale ended there.

Their own bank stopped it, not yours

Some banks turn away a payment to a business in another country, or ask the customer to confirm it in a way they never see. Nothing is wrong with your business. The sale is still lost.

The ways you can take payment don't reach where they live

The ways you take payment today may only work in some countries. A customer somewhere else is left with a long bank transfer, or with giving up.

What you get instead

A link your customer can pay from their own wallet.

Your customer pays from their own crypto wallet, wherever they are, or by card where available. The money settles to a wallet you control, once the payment network confirms it.

Two limits worth knowing, in the same breath. If your own account with us is under review, automatic payouts pause until that is resolved. And a customer paying by card can still be declined, or asked to prove who they are, before the money is sent. And for card payments, your payment provider handles card disputes with the cardholder's bank.

How it works

One link, sent to wherever your customer is.

1

Create a link for the amount

One link, one payment, for a fixed amount, with your order or invoice number as the description.

2

Send it to your customer

By email or message, wherever they are. They pay from their own crypto wallet, or by card where available in their country.

3

The money reaches your wallet

Settlement reaches your wallet once the payment network confirms it, in the currency the link was set in.

Common questions

What people ask when customers abroad can't pay.

Why do my customers abroad keep getting declined?

We can't tell you why another company or a customer's bank said no. What we can offer is another way for that customer to pay: a link they can pay from their own crypto wallet.

Can my customers pay by card?

Where available. Buyer eligibility depends on country, payment method, provider, and compliance checks, and a customer paying by card may be asked to prove who they are. A customer who holds a crypto wallet can pay from it instead.

Which countries can pay me?

Our markets page lists every country and the ways customers there can pay. The checkout itself shows each customer the ways to pay and the limits available to them.

Is this a way to take payments from countries under sanctions?

No. This is not a way round sanctions or the law. Businesses in comprehensively sanctioned countries can't sign up, and the wallet addresses shops and partners are paid to are checked against sanctions lists every day.

Do I have to stop using the way I take payments now?

No. Keep it for the customers it works for. A link is for the customer it doesn't reach.

What does it cost me?

A percentage of each payment, agreed with you in writing before you go live: crypto payments start at 0.75%, and card payments, if your business can take them, have a separate, higher price. No monthly platform fee and no setup fee. Network fees, and any extra charge for how your customer pays, are separate. Your customer pays them on top of your price and sees their total before they pay.

Zoyn is software. It is not a bank, a payment processor, a payment gateway, a money transmitter or a money services business. Zoyn is never the seller in a sale (the "merchant of record"). Zoyn never holds a shop's money, and does not decide how long a payment company may hold it. When a customer pays by card or bank, the payment company handles that payment under its own terms and may hold it for a short time. The money then goes to the shop's own payment contract once the payment network has confirmed it.

Businesses can be based in 64 jurisdictions. A US state stays open when at least one checkout partner still serves buyers there. Customers can pay from 130+ countries through the checkout providers we connect to; which countries customers can pay from is set by those providers, not by Zoyn, and may change without notice. Not available in sanctioned jurisdictions: Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Syria, and the Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions of Ukraine.
